Photography Study

Light, Color and Placement

Scroll ā†“

These photos came from the lab of my second architecture studio class. The purpose was to get students to think about how light interacts with subjects and space.

For the black and white photos, I kept the camera and model stationary while changing the location of the lamp to see how light can create a different environment.

I then added color and moved the camera to practice framing and playing with the relationship between foreground and background.

For the second half of the lab, I chose some samples of travertine tile to add materiality to the setting and moved the camera around the figure.

More travertine is added as steps/seating.

I enjoyed my work in this lab and it helped a lot to get me thinking about making intentional decisions about all the little details of my projects. It also peaked my interest in the use of photography as a tool to tell a story.
